Presentation from Utilities Panel - Committee Discussion Only

A panel of utility
companies presented to the committee about how they are working to meet
Colorado's climate goals. Kathryn Valdez, Carbon-Free Technology Policy
Director representing Xcel Energy made a presentation (Attachment A). Reg
Rudolph representing Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association
mad a presentation and provided the committee with a handout (Attachment
B). The presentation continued with the Colorado Rural Electric Association
(CREA) and their Director of Government Relations and General Counsel,
Craig Johnson. Mr. Johnson provided a handout to the committee (Attachment
C ). Katie Fleming, Director of Sustainability representing Black Hills
Energy gave the final presentation (Attachment D).

The committee asked
the panel questions on how each organization is planning on using the Inflation
Reduction Act of 2022 and how the state can assist. The committee continued
to ask questions about the cost and overall climate benefit of going to
net zero, electrification, air source heat pump water heaters, nuclear
energy, state policy impacting nuclear energy, as well as Xcel power plants
and the ozone pollution from those plants.
