Hearing for the Sunset Review of the Measurement Standards Act of 1983 - Introduce Draft Bill

Bryan Jameson, Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, presented the 2017 Sunset Review:  Measurement Standards Act of 1983.  A copy of the 2017 Sunset Review:  Measurement Standards Act of 1983 and a draft bill concerning the continuation under the sunset law of the Measurement Standards Act [Attachments A and B] were distributed to the committee.  Mr. Jameson provided an overview of the sunset review process. He explained the Measurement Standards Act of 1983.

Mr. Jameson answered questions from the committee.  He discussed the recommendations included in the sunset report. He responded to additional questions from the committee.

Tom Morris, Office of Legislative Legal Services, made comments to the committee about the sunset process.

In response to questions, Mr. Jameson explained the wind-up period for entities that are sunsetted.  Committee members made comments about the draft bill.

Representative Thurlow, bill sponsor, presented House Bill 18-1087.  The bill authorizes the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to repeal rules concerning the following:

•     the Victims Assistance and Law Enforcement Advisory Board;

•     standards for the administration of crime victim compensation programs; and

•     standards for the administration of victims assistance and law enforcement programs.

The bill's provisions repeal on July 1, 2019.
