Senator Priola, sponsor, presented Senate Bill 18-025 to the committee. The bill clarifies election procedures for the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, and specifies that elections in the district can be held either independently or in coordination with the county clerks and recorders of the counties included in the district.  The bill addresses the calculation of the district's share of costs if participating in a coordinated election, and it aligns various portions of the law with the Uniform Election Code and the Local Government Election Code.

Libby Szabo, representing the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, testified in support of the bill.  She explained that the bill cleans up procedures to keep them up with current election laws.  She described the district's role in the Denver metro area and provided examples of its work.

SB18-044 - Referred to the Committee of the Whole - Consent Calendar

Senator Crowder, sponsor, presented Senate Bill 18-044 to the committee.  The bill allows private employers to give preference to military veterans in hiring, promoting, or retaining a veteran over another equally qualified applicant or employee as long as certain conditions are met.  Senator Crowder responded to committee member questions about possible consequences of the bill.
