Matthew McClain, Executive Director, Colorado School Counselor Association, Karen Smith, President of the Colorado School Counselor Association, and Dr. Franci Crepeau-Hobson, Board Member of the Colorado Society of School Psychologists, came to the table. They distributed two handouts to the committee (Attachments C and D). Mr. McClain spoke about his experience as a school counselor in rural Colorado. Ms. Smith spoke about her experiences as a counselor in a metropolitan area school district. Mr. McClain and Ms. Smith answered questions from the committee. 08:46:04 AM Dr. Crepeau-Hobson, Director of Clinical Training in School Psychology at the University of Colorado Denver, as well as a board member of the Colorado Society of School Psychologists, provided a definition of school psychologists as well as an overview of the services they provide in schools. She said that mental illness, when conceptualized as a disease, is the most common childhood disease. She spoke about the mental health services that children receive in school, as well as the risk factors for suicide.
