Senator Hill, chair, called the meeting to order. Senators Priola and Fields, co-sponsors, presented House Bill 17-1160 which was on the table for action only. The bill concerns authorizing a local education provider to determine the language in which a student who is an English language learner takes reading assessments in kindergarten through third grade. The co-sponsors distributed amendment L.003 (Attachment A) and explained the amendment.

Senator Hill asked Kayla McGannon, representing Denver Public Schools, to come up to the table to discuss the amendment.

Senator Hill asked Jennifer Mello, Legislative Liaison for the Colorado Department of Education, to come to the table to discuss State Board of Education's position on the amendment.

Senators Priola and Zenzinger, co-sponsors, presented House Bill 17-1201 which concerns authorization for granting a high school diploma endorsement in the combined disciplines of science, engineering, technology, and math. The co-sponsors distributed a handout (Attachment B) and amendment L.005 (Attachment C). The co-sponsors discussed the bill and the amendment.
