Copies of the Governor's appointment letter were distributed to the committee [Attachment A]. President Thomas spoke about the college. Former Senator Roberts spoke about her professional background and about why she would like to serve on the board. Amy Schwartz from Build Strong Education spoke about the history of the program. Michael Smith, Director of the Colorado Homebuilding Academy, spoke about the academy's programs. He discussed the need for removing barriers and creating pathways to the construction industry. The presenters distributed a handout to the committee [Attachment B]. Mr. Smith introduced a student from the academy, Jesus Martinez, who spoke about what he's learned at the academy and how it has been helpful and impactful. 01:59:42 PM The presenters answered questions from the committee. 02:05:12 PM Robert Hernandez, Business Services Director for the academy, introduced himself and spoke about his role with the program. HB18-1048 - Referred to the Committee of the Whole - Consent Calendar 02:10:22 PM Senator Coram, sponsor, presented House Bill 18-1048 which concerns the expenditure of money from the Hesperus account by the board of trustees of Fort Lewis College. 02:12:25 PM Dene Kay Thomas, President of Fort Lewis College, spoke in support of the bill. She stated the bill provides more flexibility to the college to manage the property that funds the Hesperus account. 02:13:43 PM Bill Ryan, Director of the Colorado State Land Board, spoke in support of the bill.
