Senator Court introduced Senate Bill 19-012. Under current law, drivers under the age of 18 are prohibited from using a mobile electronic device while driving, while drivers over 18 are prohibited from texting and driving. This bill prohibits the use of a mobile electronic device while driving for all drivers unless the driver is contacting a public safety entity, there is an emergency, or the driver is using a hands free accessory. The committee previously considered witness testimony on the bill on January 24, 2019. Senator Court distributed strike below amendment L.010 (Attachment A). She discussed the bill and the amendment.
