Laws Governing Sex Offenders in Colorado (2016)

The purpose of this publication is to compile information on Colorado law related to sex offenses and sex offenders.  Included in this report is the following:

•     a listing of sex offenses in Colorado law;

•     information on the statute of limitations for sex offenses;

•     information on sentencing for sex offenses;

      •     a review of the provisions of Colorado's Lifetime Supervision of Sex Offenders Act;

      •     a review of sex offender registration requirements;

•     a review of statutory provisions on the availability of information about sex offenders in the community; and

•     a review of Colorado law and sex offenders residing in the community.

The information in this report is current through 2016 session laws.

The Colorado Senate and House of Representatives will not convene on Monday, January 20, 2025 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day.

The effective date for bills enacted without a safety clause is August 6, 2025, if the General Assembly adjourns sine die on May 7, 2025 (unless otherwise specified). Details
