Nate Pearson, Department
of Natural Resources, introduced himself and the presentation. Robert Walters,
Invasive Species Program Manager, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), discussed
aquatic nuisance species (ANS), specifically zebra mussels. He spoke about
the impacts to infrastructure, detections on the Colorado River, increasing
CPW's sampling capacity on the Western Slope, and finding a large zebra
mussel population in a private lake in Eagle County. He discussed the ongoing
monitoring in a variety of aquatic resources along the Colorado River and
campaigns to raise ANS awareness. |

The panelists responded
to questions from the committee regarding working with landowners, conversations
with other states that rely on the Colorado River, tracking water crafts
and fire fighting equipment moving between bodies of water, and unintended
impacts on non-targeted species during eradication efforts.
