SCR24-002 - Referred to the Committee of the Whole

07:25:09 PM
Representative Frizell and Representative Brown, co-prime bill sponsors, presented Senate Concurrent Resolution 24-002, which submits to the registered electors of the state of Colorado an amendment to the Colorado Constitution concerning the modification of certain deadlines in connection with specified elections. If approved by voters at the 2024 election, the resolution changes deadlines for certain filings in elections. Deadlines for filing initiative petitions, referendum petitions, and declaration of intent for judges and justices will all be moved up one week. Under current law, nonpartisan research staff publish the text and titles of ballot measures at least 15 days before an election. The resolution extends that period to 45 days.

Amanda Gonzalez, representing the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder's Office, testified in support of the resolution. Molly Fitzpatrick, representing the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Office and Colorado County Clerks Association, testified in support of the resolution. Carly Koppes, representing the Colorado County Clerks Association, testified in support of the resolution.
