The committee was
called to order. A quorum was present. Senator Gozales, Chair, provided
an overview of the day's agenda. Senator Goznales proceeded with the first
agenda item.

Jeremiah Barry, Deputy
Director, Office of Legislative Legal Services (OLLS), suggested that the
committee consider meeting in executive session to be advised on the legalities
of conducting the interviews for the next Director of OLLS.

from executive session. Senator Gonzales, Chair, thanked the candidates
for applying and interviewing with the committee for the position of Director
of OLLS.

made a motion to refer two names to the Executive Committee for consideration
for the appointment of Director of the Office of Legislative Legal Services
and the two names be Mr. Ed Decco and Ms. Christy Chase.

Senator Gardner commented
on the robust discussion the committee conducted during the executive session
about the pros and cons of forwarding one, two, or three names to
the Executive Committee. He expressed that he would prefer the Executive
Committee have open ended discussions with each of the candidates to determine
who would be best suited to handle the challenges of the office.

offered a substitute motion for the committee to recommend three names
to the Executive Committee, Ms. van Mourik-Rudnik, Mr. Decco, and Ms. Chase.

The committee voted
on Representative Mabrey's substitute motion, which passed 6 to 4, so the
committee did not act on Representative Soper's original motion. Senator
Gardner and Reprsentative Soper commented that the committee is referring
three excellent candidates to the Executive Committee for consideration
for the position of Director of OLLS.
