Bill Summary

Local authorities - altering speed limits - residential neighborhoods - permissive factors to consider. In addition to conducting the traffic investigation or survey already required, the act allows a county or municipal authority to consider the following factors before increasing or decreasing speed limits for residential neighborhoods within the authority's jurisdiction:

  • Road characteristics;
  • Current and future development;
  • Environmental factors;
  • Parking practices;
  • Pedestrian and bicycle activity in the vicinity; and
  • Crash statistics from the most recent year.
